So here it is… We are on an adventure of a lifetime. For two years we’re going to drive around the globe in our 24 year old camper van ‘Peggy’ exchanging vows in the most unusual and unique wedding locations we can find.

We are looking to embrace the culture and local traditions of each place we visit. We want to experience the difference in each ceremony and find out what it is that makes the bringing of two people together such a worldwide tradition, and of course let the world know!

At the end of the trip we will pick our favourite place and go back to officially tie the knot.

This is where you come in. We have teamed up with the wonderful Zankyou wedding registry to give you the chance to be flown out to our final destination wedding wherever that may be. To find out more and enter click Zankyou. Or visit ‘Your wedding invite’ page for more information.

Amazing Photographers!

We have been lucky enough to involve some of the worlds most amazing photographers on our wedding adventure. Have a look at our Photographers page to see there work.

Now to see whats happened so far. How do you browse?

  • Click Humble beginings to start at the beginning. You can keep going as at the bottom of each blog is a link to the next blog!
  • If maps are your thing you can search our wedding adventure map
  • Or if you want to jump to say ‘The weddings’ or ‘Quebec‘ check out our categories and dates on the right handside. Easy…. oh and don’t forget to fill out your wedding invite and be part of the adventure!

Up to date?

Due to photo processing time from the weddings we took the executive decision to run the blog around 2 weeks behind where we are! If you want up to date real time info please join us on facebook and twitter.

Help!?

We are always looking to meet new friends and this adventure would not be possible without ‘local’ help! If you think you might want to get involved.. Find out more…

  28. Jonas Seaman says:

I know I’m just a hopeless romantic, but I’m most looking forward to a Paris wedding.

  29. Jennifer says:

I love this idea! I’m planning my own wedding right now, and it’s such a wonderful time. How lucky you are to be able to have the wedding of your dreams over and over again. When I got engaged and actually started planning I realized that the only disappointment I had (among the many thrills of being engaged) was that I couldn’t incorporate everything I loved into one day. You can’t have a beautiful rustic reception among trees and wildflowers AND also have a breathtaking view of the twinkling lights of the city skyline. You can’t celebrate on an elegant vineyard with delicate hors d’ouevres AND host a down-home pig roast and barbecue. I’m very happy with the choices I made for my wedding, but you both will have the unique opportunity to explore and live out every dream you ever had for your big day. How wonderful! Good luck in all your celebrations. I hope each one is as memorable as the last.
P.S. An Indian wedding would be spectacular!

    • Lisa & Alex says:

Thanks Jennifer, Its a good point. What did you choose in the end!? We are having a blast and we hope we can have an Indian wedding to. We can feel your pain with having to make a decision though as after all this fun we are going to have to pick the place to finally go back and tie the knot officially! Its going to be tough!

  30. Elita says:

    Dear Lisa & Alex,

I’m delighted beyond belief to have found your adventures (and I have to admit a bit jealous as well)! The reason is my life with my long-time scientist fiance has dragged us around the world and not allowed us to settle anywhere, so getting married has become a chore that we can’t seem to get to! Plus, as another girl mentioned, how can you have every type of event, to which I’ll add that I’ve always asked him, ‘How can we choose a place and include those we’d want there when we’re all over the world?’ His sweet response to me one day was, “It’s simple. We can get married as many times as we want.”
So, though I was so pleased at his reply, it sounded like a great dream but somewhat (financially) unrealistic. Thus, you can’t even imagine my delight at discovering you’re doing this! And I love that you’re incorporating local customs as part of each ceremony as this makes it even more special. I’m so happy for you and look forward to following your future journeys. And sad that I missed Hawaii as that is my current first choice.

    Enjoy every minute!

    Elizabeth

    • Lisa & Alex says:

      Hi Elizabeth,

We are so happy you have found us and are enjoying our adventure! We are having the time of our lives and learning so much at the same time. Meeting new people everywhere we go AND virtually through the blog is making our journey so special! We have found somewhere to stay in Telchac Puerto for the holidays and are currently driving through the center of Mexico. Where abouts are you and are you here for long? If we are nearby we could meet up?

      Us 2

      • Elita says:

        Hi L & A,

Sorry my reply has taken so long, crazy few weeks. So of course I had to ask where you are and was told its in the Riviera Maya. Beautiful area, I have never been to the East coast of Mexico, on ‘the list’. As you know I’m not near you, but will be in the country of Mexico for the forseeable future. I’ve been updating my fiance on your adventures as I read them and we’d love to meet up if you for some reason happen to find yourself back in our area. I’ll be following along on your journey to find out.

        Merry Christmas!

        E

  31. Elita says:

    Hi L & A,

Noticed you’re in Mexico, as are we at the moment, but unf not near the gulf right now. Just this week we were discussing where we might go on the west coast if we can take a vacation. Can’t wait to see what pueblo you cose!

    E

    • Lisa & Alex says:

We recommend Sayulita on the west coast! Such a lovely laid back place. Although a little basic, it depends on what you like to do. :-)

      • Elita says:

        Hi L & A,

We just opened Google Maps to help us with this one. Found Sayulita. So then I guess you’ve already been to one of the two areas we would have recommended for a wedding. Are you going back to the West coast before heading South?

        E

  32. Elita says:

    Hi L& A,

I see you’ll be going to and just voted for South America. If you haven’t already chosen your destination(s), I had 2 locales I wanted to share with you for both the views and culture:

    1) The salt mine cathedral in Zipaquira, Colombia, which is near Bogota is an absolute underground wonder to see. I’ve been there twice and still want to go back. I’ve heard people say they’ve seen photos on the net. Well, those pictures don’t capture the sheer vastnest of the different stations and especially the main cathedral as well.

    2) Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As beautiful as you might think, a lovely train ride to the route, and unsurpassed views of Rio. Wish we’d gone there the first day of the trip instead of the last. It’s a great way to ‘get’ Rio.

And here’s a 3rd suggestion that just came to me, though in Central America, not South – - Antigua, Guatemala. Envision an old colonial city parts still in ruins that they’ve rebuilt around, and to mark ‘South’ just look up at the volcano. Then, though there are many beautiful hotels, at the entrance is the Casa Santa Domingo, an old monastary. Any time we went to Antigua we always wound up there.

Perhaps you’ve heard of all of these before. But I just felt the need to share.

    E

    • Lisa & Alex says:

Thanks for the great suggestions, we will be sure to look up those places when we get there. Any recommendations on Mexico!??

      • Elita says:

        Hi L & A,

        Mexico. 2 ideas:

As you’re East near Merida at the moment, if it’s allowed we think an amazing backdrop for a wedding would be the Cuculcan pyramid.

If you plan to head back to the West coast, a great beach location and less costly than Cabo or Mazatlan could be Puerto Vallarta. It’s near a great city, Guadalajara, that you could visit. And as you know as you head up the coast toward Mazatlan are many small towns to discover. D’s friend recently took an inexpensive beach vacation at the beach near Tepic. However, it’s too new so not really developed enough for a wedding.

These are the coastal ideas we came up with.

        Feliz Navidad!

        E

        • Lisa & Alex says:

Thanks so much for the advice, we loved Guadalajara. We are still looking for that perfect place. We know that we want it to be Mayan influenced and hopefully held by an elder but are still unsure of the location. There is so much to choose from in Mexico.

  33. Nikki Prins says:

Come to New Zealand! I will donate you the most awesome Nz themed Wedding Cake ever made, and you would love our country and New Zealands great hospitality :) Hope to see you soon and good luck with all the upcoming nuptials.

    • Lisa & Alex says:

Hi Nikki! We will take you up on your kind offer! New Zealand is right at the end of our trip and we won’t be over there until May 2013! Hope you can wait that long???

  34. Barbara Tieman says:

Loving every minute of the travelog, keep up the good work and be careful and happy, xoxdoxoBarb

  35. Mike & Lauree Low says:

    Alex & Lisa:

Nice to meet you at Acamaya Reef RV park. Your travels so far are exciting and we look forward to keeping in touch as you travel through Central and South America. We went to the Paamul website and it looks great. We’ll be down there on January 4 and hope to see you again.

Mike, Lauree and Tigger the cat

By the way, Mrs. Low and I have been married for 33 years. Getting married once in Missoula, Montana was enough for us though.

    • Lisa & Alex says:

Look forward to seeing you, the sand isn’t quite as soft here but its not bad! Ahh the things we have to worry about. We are having a wedding on the 5th at Paamul so if you guys would like to come and be part of our 11th wedding that would be great. Obviously Tigger is welcome to. Congratulations on 33 years of marriage!

  36. hey guys,
this is sooo cool what you are doing, just saw you on twitter and went into the blog to see what about!
We are living only once and you do right,
hope for you all the best, stay in love and take care on your trips.

If you decide to do a wedding on a greek island or in a traditional greek village maybe, I could help you with information and of course be your personal hair & make-up artist , Lisa;)

    Love from Thessaloniki, Greece!

  37. Rita says:

I live in Antigua and will get marry here next weekend, please let me go to yours and enjoy this experience and add it to mine!
Hope to hear from you guys,
    Felicidades en su boda!

  38. Elita says:

    Hi L & A!

I’ve been so far behind on reading the blog I don’t even know where to start! (Work just gets in the way of fun!) But I noticed you’re currently in Antigua, Guatemala, which was our getaway when we lived in Guatemala City. We were there as often as possible. So have a great time and no matter where you stay, be sure to check out the hotels. They’re quaint, beautiful, and serene.

    Enjoy!
    E

    • Lisa & Alex says:

We Love Antigua and after passing though Guatemala city to get here and can see why you liked to visit so much. It is a epic contrast for a 33k drive! We have been lucky enough to be put up at the Hotel El Meson De Marie in the heart of the city. It is one of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed in ever! They have arranged for us to have our Guatemalan ceremony on the roof terrace later today held by a local Shaman! We will be surrounded by Volcano’s and an amazing view of the city! We feel so lucky! xx

  39. Elita says:

    Beautiful!!!

We visitied that hotel on our ‘hotel tours day’ trip. Absolutely gorgeous.

Enjoy a beautiful wedding. Wish we were there!
