We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

2people1life started as a wild idea to have a wedding ceremony in each country we visited on a ‘2’ year journey around the world. The adventure has since spanned 5 years, 5 continents, 65 countries, 71 ceremonies and we have driven over 150,000 miles, but not a moment of this trip would have been possible without all of the support we have received from all over the globe.

Here’s the full story.

Hailing from a small town in Yorkshire Alex and I have been friends since our teens, There was always a spark (but I would say that right?) but it took a long time and countless requests for dates from Alex for me to say yes.

We both needed time to grow as our own people before we could complete the other and that took 8 whole years. Once we got together there was no going back, we knew it was real, the true love neither of us had felt before overrode everything else and we stuck fast.

Always individually passionate, committed and adventurous it was mere months into living together that we decided that there was more for us than a Salford railway arch body shop and a floor management position at Marks & Spencers. There was so much world out there, so much to see…and surely, there had to be sunshine somewhere out there too. We craved social lives in the warmth of the sun, planning BBQ’s with great friends and sipping great wine, we dreamed, in short, of Australia.

Never ones to rest on our laurels we immediately started an application for residency and discussing travelling to Australia the long way around. Of course dreams, like everything, take time and nurturing and lots and lots of money. It took us 3 years of hermit style living to complete our application and to save enough money to leave our lives in England and chase the sun to Australia.

Business and belongings sold we were finally free to trip the light fantastic…but what would we do to entertain ourselves while we travelled? Terrible at being tourists we knew we wouldn’t make any effort to tick boxes or suffer the indignities of joining tour groups, nor did we want to follow the crowds. We like being the black sheep thank you very much. We wanted off the beaten track of travel.

Three weeks before an airplane took us that first step on the journey to our new lives we drank too much wine and had a crazy idea.

We romanticized about getting married as we planned our get-away but found that the rules and regulations around tying the knot in England were just a bit too, well…British. One must be married inside a registered building and we wanted to be married on a hill somewhere with the wind in our hair and probably the sleet in our faces…but it wasn’t possible. So we had given up on the matter.

The drunken idea of 2people1life stemmed from this and was to explore the way other people were married around the world as we traveled. Could we find that perfect spot to get married? That perfect place where we could marry however and wherever we liked? Could we find unique and unusual places to elope to and share them with the world? Couldn’t we get married in every country we visited in-line with local culture and traditions?

A crazy idea I know, but it stuck and the next day, nursing sore heads we started planning. We built the 2people1life web site, we spoke to marketers and Alex spoke to local Didsbury businesses and arranged an entire wedding as a complete surprise to me.

Our wild wedding adventure had begun…the day after our first wedding we landed in Canada ready to take the world by storm.

Over the last four years and 70 countries the adventure has changed. To start with it all sounded like a crazy idea that would never work, a couple of eccentric Brits trying to dig into culture and tradition. Not many people could understand what for. Most asked why? How? Who? Who would help us find what we were looking for? At first we didn’t know. We couldn’t really imagine anyone would help us…but they did.

They helped us and believed in us and they showed us the way. In the beginning we were sending hundreds of emails, talking to everyone we could, stalking travel bloggers and wedding bloggers alike but with very few results.  With hard work, commitment and the help and support of hundreds of people, within a year we had managed 20 ceremonies in 13 countries and had driven thousands of miles in our 1987 Dodge campervan, but wedding 21 was the turning point for us.

We held a traditional Andean ceremony in the sacred valley in Peru and finally, we got under the skin of the culture and traditions of the Peruvians. The ceremony gripped our hearts and souls and the people that helped arrange it believed in us 100%. After that ceremony the tables turned, we were approached by people all over the world inviting us to share in their culture, to experience their traditions and to be welcomed by them and their families.

The rest as they say is history, it is all documented in our diary of driving around the world in about a bazillion blog posts, the highs, the lows, the adventure, the danger, the laughs, the drama, the love, the people…the people have made this the 2people1life adventure we dreamed of. They have supported us, they have taught us, helped us, pushed us, challenged us, they have made us carry on through our hardest times…they have each become our friends.

As a couple we have become so strong, so in tune with one another and fall more in love with every day that passes. Together we crave daily adventure, new friendships and new pastures. We dream of sharing our knowledge of weddings and our experiences of the world by making them useful to like-minded people and we are, once again making our dreams come true by connecting couples all over the globe with a hand selected collection of wedding professionals and locations that we truly believe in.

We hope that by pushing hard to make our own dreams come true, we can help you with yours.
