Lissette and her Mum had made us a wedding arch wrapped in white linens and dressed with bright pink bougainvillea. They had placed chairs on the sand and the light was perfect as we walked towards our small gathering on the beach. We had made enough friends to give them all a job…as always, all of our guests get a job. Katy was videographer for the day and Anto photographer, even Lissette wasn’t getting away lightly with holding the ceremony at her beautiful hotel…she became our officiate too! She even wrote us some lovely vows including ‘I will bring you a beer when watching sports’ (I happily agreed with this as Alex NEVER watches sports) and ‘I will buy you gifts for no reason AND on all major holidays’ and of course that we will love each other forever and that each of us is the sexiest man / woman alive! We giggled all the way through and Lissette had a great time reading out the vows she had written just for us.
The light was so perfect for pictures and after the ceremony we all just wandered out to the ocean for some snaps while the sun dropped behind the horizon. It was a cute simple ceremony but made all the more special by the personal touches by Lissette and her family and of course it being on the most romantic day of the year! The fact it was so impromptu made it relaxed and easy and once the stars had come out we all grabbed a beer or two and spent the night nattering at the bar under the fairy lights.
We are constantly surprised by the way our trip just falls into place. We had written off all hopes of a wedding in El Salvador as we were due to leave the next day and were just looking for a place to rest our heads for the night when we stumbled upon Azul Surf Club.
Most places that fancy wouldn’t have wanted Peggy parked up in their carpark for the night but Lissette and her team welcomed us with open arms and ran around after us like we were staying in the honeymoon suite the whole time we were there. We couldn’t have asked for more…but for them to want to help us on our adventure by throwing us a wedding was just the icing on the cake. We are forever reminded that there are so many kind people out there who put aside the things that apparently make the world go around. They forget about the money and give their time and kindness freely just to be a part of our adventure and to help us spread the love. It restores my faith in humankind a little bit more every day!
