We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

Arriving in Uruguay, country number 18!

The day of the market we lingered for as long as we could soaking up all things Buenos Aires but eventually we had to leave.

We discussed staying longer and blogging more but Alex’s laptop had a crippling virus and we were getting nowhere AND the hotel was costing us money that we don’t normally spend so we said goodbye to the gang at the fabulous Dante Boutique, waved sadly at our lovely room and jumped happily back into Peggy and once again hit the road!

We drove out of Buenos Aires, again without too much drama (maybe we are finally getting good at this navigating thing) and drove until dark, took a turn off the main road and stopped in a tiny village next to a lake which when we woke up was covered by a spooky layer of mist. Driving back to the main road that morning was interesting, the road was flanked both sides by bog with a steep slope to edge the loose gravel. We laughed at how many roads we drive absolutely blind.

Within the day we were at the border of Uruguay named quite amusingly (to the Brits reading) Fray Bentos but said in a beautiful Spanish accent not a Hull one! It was THE slackest border EVER and after crossing we drove until we hit a deserted beach.
It was dusk and as we looked for a spot to park we passed leatherfaces hut and decided of course to stay next to it! (leatherface is the killer in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre if you are wondering) We had smuggled some contraband wine over the border (not really Mums, you are allowed several bottles) from Argentina and had a bottle of wine or two listening to the wind howl off the ocean.

Of course we woke up feeling like death and after sobering up properly with a huge breakfast we waved at leatherfaces 7 dogs and drove on our way.

Next stop was Montevideo, an amazing mishmash of colonial, art deco, Spanish, British and French influenced buildings and home to half of Uruguay’s population (1.5 million) in 200 square miles! I was too hungover to do a great deal other than soak up the surroundings as we got lost driving around looking for a place to hijack wifi to check our emails.

We passed pedestrianised cobbled streets lined with funky bars with outdoor seating, stained glass windows alongside breeze block offices, all very European! We found a university and hijacked the wifi from the street and opened our emails to find that an article we had been putting together with Yahoo had gone live and we had received one heck of a lot of emails!

We read the emails and looked at the response our story had provoked on the article and left our hijacked wifi and headed once again into the unknown and tried to let it all sink in.

  1. Hi Lisa and Alex,
I have been trying to access your old stories but receive and error 404 message instead. Do you know what might be going on? I’ve been really sick for weeks and haven’t been able to keep up so if your able to help me with this I would really be appreciative. I have loved all your doing and had been reading up on everything from the beginning. I had started with you when you got into Nicaragua – that seems so long ago!
    Love,
    Debi in Charlotte, NC

      Hi Debi,
we are so sorry about the blog error message at the moment. It appears that with the transition of the blog from the old to the new format we are experiencing some technical issues. We have our friends at ‘We Are Life’ working on it and we should be back to 100% access really soon and can only apologise in the meantime for any problems. Its lovely to hear from you after following us for so long, Nicaragua does seem so long ago! Happy to hear you are feeling better and fingers crossed the blog will be back to normal asap for you to carry on catching up on the craziness! xx
