After the shoot we headed back to Deans to abuse his shower and to share our pan of homemade chicken soup to warm us through. We ate soup, showered ourselves and Tabitha and we were introduced to Ciele, Deans lovely dog. Before long Maria joined us with her beautiful daughter Skyla and we all had a Tequila both to celebrate and for medicinal purposes (to ward off the cold of course). We had a sneaky look at the pictures from the day and laughed at all the bloopers! There were plenty believe me, it is difficult to look romantic when you cant breathe! Maybe we will post them sometime for a laugh!
We sadly said our farewells. Sadly because although we know we will keep in touch it is sad to make such great friends one day and have to leave them the next!
The next morning we set off to Tulum to go and see the ruins. By the time we
had messed about looking in the supermarkets for a new video camera (as the original once has bitten the dust after its New Years eve swim!)and then driving up and down the beach road looking for somewhere to stay the ruins were closed and Alex was worn out. We crashed outside a 24 hour chemist for the night and decided we would go first thing in the morning.
Morning rolled around and Alex was FULL of cold. I put it down to him not having a Tequila at Deans after being in the cenote all day but…by the by…he put a brave face on it (as brave a face as a man can put on a cold) and we headed to the ruins. His state had deteriorated by the time we arrived so he took some flu capsules and we entered the ruins. The ruins are all very similar and we cant afford a guide for them all but we wanted to see
Tulum in particular as it is backed by the vivid
turquoise Caribbean Sea and powder white beach. We had been in there for ten minutes when I turned to Alex and thought he was on another planet.
Asking if he was ok he replied with ‘I feel a bit spaced out!’ We went back to the van where he near enough collapsed. I drove and we continued on our journey with me telling him how wuss he was and it was just a cold! He did look ill and his head lolled on his neck in the passanger seat. He looked at me pitifully and said ‘please can we stay in a hotel? I think I might die without aircon!’ I sent him to bed as I drove us to the town and looked for a hotel. We booked in, had a shower and Alex laid under the AC.
When it came to bed time I told him to take some more capsules to help him sleep and he opened the box and pulled out green tablets. The ones he had taken earlier were red. He read the packet and it turns out he had taken the night time ones at lunchtime hence him thinking he had been drugged and was dying trying to stay awake! MEN!!
SO to try to cut a long story short…always impossible in my case…he felt a bit
better then next day and we spent the morning at the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. Bacalar lake is a landlocked fresh water lake that is the colour of the Caribean Sea. Crystal clear turquoise waters turn to idigo as it gets deeper and a strip of white sand can be seen 1km away at the other side. Alex lay on the pier pretending to be dead while I daydreamed of building a house on the lake! It would be a perfecr place to call home…expecially if Alex was THIS quiet!!

Bacalar Lake is a prettier sight than poor, poor Alex flaked out….poor guy does look like he was on his last legs! Glad he’s fully recovered now and at the very least you got to stay in a hotel room with a shower to aid his recovery. All’s well 🙂
It will be fun to see some of your “flop” piccies from your shoot if you are ever brave enough to put some of them up…the good piccies are fantastic!
Happy trails….hope you don’t have to make too many pots of chicken soup for medicinal purposes. xx
