We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

Up with the fishermen! Well early enough to see them come back in.

We got up nice and early and watched the fishermen bring in their catch and the Pelicans waiting patiently for their share.
The boats unloaded all sorts and sizes of fish and shellfish, even sharks! The fishermen were gutting the fish right there on the sand to sell to the locals and throwing the guts to the eagerly awaiting birds who gathered around.

We watched the old ladies coming in to buy their fish and they left with carrier bags full and one lady even had a fish so big that as she carried it by its tail its head trailed along the floor! We waved as we passed and she waved her fish back at us with a huge smile on her face!

We set off early with the intention of getting to Campeche which turned out to be an awful, dull, grey place. We had KFC which was terrible and decided to skip the rest of Campeche and head straight to Merida!

Of course on route we got stopped for another bribe. This time the Policeman tried to say we were not wearing our seatbelts which we definitely were. We talked it over about 50 times and in the end he let us off as he clearly wasn’t getting anything out of us.
We arrived in Merida ready to hit the hay and sick of everything being just a bit of a nightmare and of course arrived to find the campsite deserted! Apart from (of course!) 2 dogs that never stopped barking the whole time we were there! We looked for any signs of life and there was no-one to be seen. We decided to stay anyway and called it a night. We crashed and tried again in the morning. There was no-one anywhere so we left. Without paying. We hadn’t used any electricity or water as there wasn’t any to use, we had barely slept because of the dogs so we didnt feel toooo bad about it! With our early start we decided to hot foot it all the way to Cancun in one day. It was 200 miles but once we were there we could relax a little, catch up on the blog in a civilised area and wait for Alex’s Mum to arrive.
We went to Progresso on the way and stopped at the local meat market and bought 200g of pork belly and crackling which we put in a breadbun for breakfast and continued on to Telchac Puerto where we were going to be spending Christmas! We checked out the house and the tiny Mexican village and excited to get settled we headed out to Cancun. 4 hours later and I cannot fail to mention, the worlds longest most boring road and nearly running out of fuel on the way! On arrival we headed for the campsite and miraculously it was open! It existed! We booked in and went to hook up. Alex went to plug in while I went to the bathroom. I came back to tell Alex that the bathroom was infested with ants and saw him fighting off the mosquitoes. I was bitten 5 times in less minutes and jumped into the van for respite!

The day was so hot, we couldn’t open the windows because of the mozzies and there was a dragon in the waste pipe! It was staring us down and telepathicallay commuicating that it was NOT moving! We looked at each other (Alex and I…not the dragon…he beat me in the stare out) and decided enough was enough. We packed up and left. We went to find an internet connection ( found in an internet cafe in the supermarket) and booked into a $30 a night hotel for 2 nights. We had wifi, a toilet, a shower and a bed for 2 nights! It was bliss and all we had to do was wait for Mum Janet to arrive!

See what happens next on our traveling wedding adventure!

This blog entry is a bit on the sad side….I am convinced if you two can get through all these weird (and not so wonderful) hiccups on your journeys then married life will be a doddle! 🙂

Those darn dogs….they get everywhere….not to mention the mozzies & a dragon!!! I bet you were relieved to find you had enough gas to get to your destination and also to find the hotel to begin what must have seemed a l-o-n-g wait for Alex’s mom to arrive. Nice to have the luxury for 2 days of a shower and a bed…oh bliss.

Happy trails (sorry to only rate this one 3 stars….nothing wrong with your writing, just seemed a string of unpleasant circumstances for you so I rated it based on that 🙁 xx

There are sadly going to be a few days like this I guess…we cant expect it always to be easy. We do often admit that if we can live together in such a small space and get lost a hundred times a day and deal with whatever the day throws at us…Marriage will be a doddle! Fingers crossed!! The rating is there for just that reason Jacquie and thanks for rating honestly xxx

    Hi L & A,

Going back to things I missed. And I agree with Jacquie. But you’re right in that life throws these things at us. And just hoping overall there are many more good days than bad.
