After our dreams of a wedding on the beach with Rasta Robert as our officiate being dashed we set off along the coast of El Salvador the next morning. Rasta Robert…does what it says on the tin…was a rasta named Robert who had agreed to marry us but as we were without a photographer we gave up. The coastal drive was lovely and through some great scenery and we spent the time deciding what we would do if we couldn’t arrange a wedding in El Sal, it would be the first country we had been to without having a ceremony. We decided that there was always going to be the chance that we couldn’t pull off a wedding in every single country and said we would just go with it.
We decided to stop just before the border crossing back into Honduras,to get
to Nicaragua you have to go across a stretch of Honduras…ANNOYING as one border control from El Sal to Nicaragua becomes one crossing into Honduras and one out of Honduras and one into Nicaragua!
Anyhoo, we stopped in El Cuco and drove around the dusty streets for a while. El Cuco was apparently right on the beach but we couldn’t see sand or ocean anywhere! We eventually drove into one of the ocean front hotels and asked if we could camp in their carpark! Amazingly they said yes and that we could use their pool, beach and restaruant as we wished. We were just in time to watch the sun set from the pool and grab a bite to eat.
We decided to spend a couple of days at Azul surf club and then hot foot it across Nicaragua towards Costa Rica as we had a wedding planned for a set date there. We had looked at the map and planned our route and decided there was actually very little we wanted to see in Nicaragua…although a beautiful country, it seemed to be very much of the same. More beaches and surf towns and less real local living, at least on the route we had to take.
That decided, we put our feet up the next morning…on floaty lilo’s on the pool and relaxed until it was too hot to be in the sun. At that point we set up in the shade and got to work on the blog, updating our info, contacting media, building the facebook page etc and even had a TV interview for the local news back home. We utilised our time well and enjoyed the view at the same time! That afternoon as we were sat working we noticed a couple of people wandering around with some pretty serious cameras. We asked the owner if they were doing publicity shots for the hotel and if so did she want some ‘wedding shots‘.
Lissette jumped at the chance and we pulled on our wedding clothes and posed for a few pictures. We obviously had to explain why we had a wedding dress and suit in the van and Lissette loved the idea! We told her how our wedding with Rasta Robert had fallen through and she said she would love to throw us a small ceremony on the beach the next day…which turned out to be Valentines day! Perfect!
We raised a glass that night to fate and were happy that we would still have managed a wedding in every country we had visited so far!
We spent the next day working but as the sun started to drop we got dressed up again and walked out to the beach…to our 15th wedding.

It’s called ‘the Pelling Luck’ you know that!!
The second to last photo with the most glorious sunset is absolutely stunning. I see that you are continuing to land on your feet and find photographers, hotel car parks (with pool facilities) and wedding ceremonies just when all seems impossible. Love it 🙂
Looking forward to your Valentine’s Day wedding blog….in the meantime, happy trails. xx
Hi L & A,
What absolutly awesome luck! And how amazing that they let you stay in their carpark. Only in these types of locales I’d think.
As always, love the photos.
Moo!
