We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

Fantastico’d in Brazil!

The morning after the wedding we woke up slowly, wandered the beautiful grounds and grabbed breakfast in the relaxed restaurant. We chatted with other guests who all eagerly invited us to join them for drinks by the pool or to chat with them in the lounge. We caught up on emails in the sunshine in extremely comfy chairs and at 5pm we said our (as always) sad goodbyes and drove away with the wedding cans still jingling behind us. Vinicius had kindly invited us to his home to celebrate is wifes birthday with the rest of the family and some friends. We drank wine all night, spoke with almost everyone and had a short drunken Portuguese lesson with Vini’s Dad.

We whiled the next day away working and chatting and waited for the Fantastico Show to be on. We all sat around and watched the show…Alex and I watched from behind our hands, embarrassed to see our hungover selves on the massive TV screen and then even a little teary all over again at the memory of the ceremony.

We were so thrilled for Vinicius, Mark, the Pousada and Patricia the dress designer, el Cine and the make up artists. They had all been involved in making the show and were all shown on the biggest TV show in Brazil!

It was a great feature…even though we couldn’t understand it, Philppe had done us proud and although a little sceptical when he first heard of the story, once he met us he admitted he could see that our adventure is ‘real’.

The next day we had to say more sad farewells and head for the port to ship Peggy back to the USA BUT before we could do that we had to pack away EVERYTHING that we own!!
We had basically been told by the people that have previously shipped their vehicles along this route that EVERYTHING would be stolen from our van.

We were dubious and asked the port staff via email about security…again we were advised to completely empty our vehicle as our possessions WILL be stolen!
I was incredulous and angry at this. How can someone charge you a LOT of money for a service and openly condone the theft of your belongings! Anyway, there was no way around it, we would have to ship Peggy and our belongings separately!

We parked up at Vini’s Photography school and began to pack our things into boxes…it is incredible how much stuff we have accumulated…none of it is worth anything to anyone but us. Plastic plates, cups, pans, a slowly pieced together tool kit made up of bra wires, nuts and bolts, cheap screws and 1 of each type of screw driver and BOOKS…more books than you can imagine! We have a tiny ‘library’ and I can not part with ANYTHING and refused to leave anything behind!

As we packed at the side of the road, dumping things as we found items we had not used for a long time, we were approached 2 or 3 times by people passing and asked (in Portuguese) if we were the people from Fantastico! We smiled and said yes and apologised for not being able to converse with them…still they carried on chatting away, inviting us to their homes to meet their families and wishing us luck (I can understand more than I can speak) and happily letting us get on with our gypsyish behaviour!

One lady was SO excited to see us that she ran up to us screaming with excitement, said something to us and ran off chatting on the phone! Within a few minutes she was back still high speed chatting at us and hugging us and no matter how many times we said we couldn’t understand she just carried on chatting away. It was amazing to see someone so enthused by seeing us and hearing our story! After a few minutes the lady started to say something about money. We couldn’t really understand and as we have spent a lot of time in poor countries and because of the area we were near, the way she was dressed etc etc, we just presumed that she was asking us for money. We kindly explained we had little money and even less to spare but she carried on saying  “dinheiro” money money money…we kept saying we didn’t understand and had no money…in the end she waved her hands as if dismissing the conversation, dug into her handbag and scooped up all the money she had in her purse (about $4) and handed it to us and gestured for us to take it! She mimicked driving and I think she said something like ‘you need money for gas, you have a long way to drive’. I almost cried at her kindness as we refused to take her money. I felt guilty for presuming that she wanted money from us but she really had very little to spare herself and tried to gift us all of the money she had on her person!

Again we were blown away by the kindness of people. We managed to give her the money back and parted with a hug and a few excited waves as she left.

We were gob-smacked by that experience and carried on packing with a different view. Maybe the people that were working in the docks needed the things that we have a lot more than we do and that maybe we should view things in a different light. We decided to pack up our things, lock them away inside Peggy and leave a gift for the people taking care of Peggy, something they are welcome to take for themselves.

It took us all day to pack and as we drove away from Belo Horizonte the sun was setting. As we drove along the highway we noticed someone in another car flashing us. I immediately checked all the doors to see if one was open, Alex took notice of the way Peggy was driving in case we had a flat tire and tried to see if  a light was out…and then the car pulled alongside us, the passenger thrust her hands out and formed a love heart with her hands! They had recognised Peggy from the Fantastico show and were beeping and saying hi! We laughed, honked and waved back and after that almost every fourth car waved or beeped until it got dark and we left the highway! We started to refer to it as being ‘Fantastico’d’ and we laughed and were amazed at everyones reaction to the story.

We parked in a truck stop for the night and reflected on the people we had met, how lucky we are to have the freedom and support to do this trip, see this amazing country and to be welcomed so kindly by the people living there!
