We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

A day of recovery…and mummies!

So when you are all reading our blogs and think we are away from the hassles of everyday life and that everyday is like a holiday please revisit the Guanajuato blog.  The next time I think I am having a bad day it is the first thing I will do!
We laid awake in the square after getting Peggy out of that hole waiting for exhaustion to take over and listening to the church bells ring on the hour (it sounded like someone was hitting them with a big metal spoon), the people catching up in the square at all hours and the changing of the extremely heavily armed, masked guard that was watching a building nearby where we were parked. We restlessy dozed and when morning came we looked at it as a new day. We still had Peggy, we weren’t homeless and vehicleless as we had expected we would be, and we were in a city full of car garages.

We laughed (cautiously) about the previous nights events and made a plan for the day. Alex started reading Peggy’s manual (a little late but better than never?!) to see what the problem could be and I went in search of an internet connection, again, better late than never, to watch the wedding.
I came back disgruntled but Alex had found a list of possible problems.
He had popped the hood and checked Peggy’s transmission fluid…or at least he tried, there was a drip left in there so we went straight to the garage and filled it up. We stopped and had her suspension checked and tightened so she didn’t rattle so much and decided to drive her around a bit to get the transmission fluid moving. We found a market which we wandered around loving the local feel.

The Christmas stalls were sparkling in the sunlight and the elderly farmers sold their wares on upturned crates. The butchers offered everything you could imagine while the florist tamed rose stems in the stall next door.

After our wander we nervously drove through some tunnels always half expecting a huge hill either up or down to jump out on us at any time! We kept behind the buses at all times (if they would fit, we would) and Peggy seemed to feel a lot better so we risked a drive to the Museo de las Momias – the Mummy Museum.
We made it, again, slowly…up the hills to the museum and headed in.
We paid our £2.50 admission and walked into the dark.
I just wasn’t expecting such gruesomeness! I know its a Mummy museum and has mummies but I had no idea! I was thinking like Egyptian Mummies but these were just real people that had been mummified. Women, men, children, babies and even the worlds smallest mummy which was a 6 month old foetus mummified at the same time as his mother. I felt emotional and queasy and we didn’t hang around for too long. We saw all of the exhibits and got back outside into the sunshine and fresh air. It was so real. Their hair, clothes, skin and bones just made it too real for me.

We sailed back down the hill and hit the road to our next stop hoping that Peggy was fixed.
Our next stop was 170 miles away in Hidalgo at a natural hot pool in the mountains so this would definitely be the test for Peggy. The road took us up and down, through mountains and forests, through lots of Balineros (the pools) and places using the steam from the pools to create energy. We finally arrived, again in the dark at about 8pm and hadn’t had a shower for 4 days due to campsites not having showers and boondocking the night before. We grabbed our towels and headed straight for the showers…which would not get hot. The manager eventually agreed to put the boiler on and told us to wait one hour. we had our dinner and abottle of wine and tried again.
Still no internet to watch the wedding but we were finally clean and had somewhere quiet enough to sleep…and boy did we sleep!

We have seen 3 pyramids so far and just visited the bad boy ‘Chichen Itza’! It was great although unusual to see all the tourists… First sight of them in Mexico. Still have another 18 months to go yet! We are looking at shipping Peggy back to the UK and then basically driving her all the way to Australia so she better get her act together! Happy new year to the UP gang! xx

That was hilarious, I was just reading about the Mummies and Grace (who is 6) peered over my shoulder. ‘Urghhh, what are those?’ I explained they were Mummies and her response was ‘Like they do in Egypt, wow cool!!!’
Happy New Year, keep up the fab posts…
