You may be wondering what made us choose Quebec for the location for our very first international wedding!
Quebec is a province that includes a two of Canada’s major cities Montreal and Quebec. It is the only Canadian province that speaks predominantely French. We arrived in Quebec for the first time at the end of June when we visited the biodome in Montreal. We then went on our route des vins tour and made it into actual Quebec city during the St Jean Baptiste holiday and camped at the ‘shameless’ campsite.
The first thing we noticed, aside from everyone speaking French, was that
Quebec was so ‘artistic’. The art work on the outside of the restaurants I mentioned, the European feel all around. There were art galleries everywhere, vinyards, small villages and even a fire station held and sold local art and sculptures. We walked down cobbled streets lined with art work in central Quebec…its just everywhere.
Obviously it is a very culturally rich place, they hold the Montreal Jazz festival every year and Montreal is also home to the Just for laughs festival and the birth place of the amazing Cirque de Soleil not to mention home to several circus schools!
I kick myself pretty much everyday for forgetting the memory card for the camera the day we went to Quebec City and I have trawled the internet for images of the restaurants and the leather covered telephone post with no luck so my own memories they will stay and you will have to use your imaginations but believe me when I say the place was an inspiration! The least artistic person ever (ie Alex…he is so perfect in every way so it doesn’t matter but arty he is not!) could even feel the buzz of the artistic electricity around us!
Anyway, that is one of the reasons we chose Quebec. It seemed to embrace
anything that encapsulated emotion, expression and creativity. It just felt right! And then we stumbled upon Chapelle Ste Agnes! It was perfect! The chapel, the heart shaped lake, the wine. Alex was totally blown away by the style and detail.
The founder Henrietta Antony has and will always see the vineyard as her vision. Henriettas ability to put her devotion before anything else and her skill in finding and placing antiques has created one of the worlds truly unique wedding locations. We feel that it is a blessing that the chapel is available for ceremonies and that Karena and John share Henriettas passion and inspiration to move the vinyard forward.
It has always been our intention to get married in unique places. Quebec has such a strong sense of artistic creativity and style that we hope our wedding here will expose this wonderful place to artistic stylish people looking for somewhere in the world to get married that embraces their passions as much as they do.
