We hate Pop Up’s too, can you help us get rid of it!?

Our project is established but our site is new and although we have weddings specialists in over 60 countries it’s going to take time to get everyone on the ship. If you can’t find exactly what you want please get in touch and if you are an awesome wedding specialist or you know people you want to recommend let us know.

El Salvador, Missionaries and fish soup

Fresh as daisies the next morning we went for a stroll on the beach…our sole intention to find breakfast of course…most things we do relate to food! Im not sure if I have mentioned but we have not been able to find anywhere to fill our gas tank since it ran out while we were in Honduras. You’re probably thinking what does that mean?! Well it means we have no fridge and no hob. We cant shop for food as we cant store it and we cant cook it anyway! Hence it seeming like we have thrown the budget aside and have taken to eating out for every meal! It is not the case, we just don’t have any choice! The worst thing about eating out all the time is finding something healthy! We love to cook and love vegetables and fresh produce but the vendors here all make bread or corn based food, the restaurants are generally expensive and that only really leaves you with fast food places which we detest! It has been so difficult and expensive…so anyway, back to what we were saying! We found breakfast in the form of a bagel with fruit, bacon and egg, Alex’s with coffee, mine with fruit juice, all lovely but at $15 NOT a budget buy! We returned to camp to do a little blogging and to try to find a wedding location when we met with the rest of the people staying at the hostel. They were a group of Christian missionaries taking part in the worldrace. The worldrace visits 11 countries in11 months spreading the word of the lord…

“The World Race is a stretching journey into 11 countries in 11 months to serve “the least of these” while amongst real and raw community. This unique mission trip is a challenging adventure for young adults to abandon worldly possessions and a traditional lifestyle in exchange for an understanding that it’s not about you; it’s about the Kingdom.”
“It facilitates discipleship through the process of discovering into the abundant life He promised. It births partnerships with ministries around the world. It requires Luke 10-like faith.”

What an amazing adventure these people were on, they had been on the road for a while and had some great stories to share with us and we all sat around and chewed the fat for a good while. We had lots in common, we loved to travel, we were enjoying being ‘off the beaten track’ and meeting the local people in their real environments and we were learning a hell of a lot about the World and the way people live. Our only difference was in the story we were sharing. Theirs the story of the bible and descipledom and ours the story of love and commitment…still very similar stories at that…the commitment part anyway.
It surprised me, I hate to say it, how ‘normal’ this group were, we were a similar age and I have mentioned all of the things we had in common…and the only time God was mentioned in the whole 2 hour chat was when someone thanked God for purified water…Man, I’ll second that…just my God is different to yours…its the guy that purified the water…not the one that lives in the sky.
I loved meeting everyone and we even got close to having a wedding that very evening as one of the group was a wedding photographer! Sadly it fell through at the last minute as they were due to move camp and there was some confusion created by them trying to stay at different camps…anyway, it wasn’t meant to be.
As everyone left to carry on their journey we said our godbyes and took down blog addresses to keep up with each others journeys. I am loving reading about their adventures even though a little cynical about the whole thing. I love that they have such conviction about their journey, the same as we do. I love that they are spreading the thing that makes them happy, as are we. And I love that they didn’t try to talk me into becoming a desciple!
We worked most of the afternoon and as we HAD to eat dinner out anyway decided we should try the local dish…Mariscada…basically, fish soup. We found a bar that served reasonably priced food and got sat with a view of the beach and the oncoming sunset. We ordered a bucket of beers and a Mariscada to share. When our meal arrived we thought the waiter must have been mistaken as he delivered 2 brimming bowls of soup.

We shrugged and tucked in. My first spoonful dragged a whole crab out of the huge cauldron of creamy broth! The second spoon a huge prawn with its head still attached. Alex dived in (pardon the pun) and pulled out a lobster tail, 2 huge prawns and huge chunks of fish! The soup was delicious and we picked and poked the shells of our feast to get at the meat and really enjoyed it! The sunset was spectacular as they always are on the Pacific coast and after paying the bill (for ONE soup!!! they had split it between us…there was enought to feed 4 at least!) we jumped in a taxi back. We had walked to the restaurant on the beach but the tide was in and we didnt know the way back! Thank goodness we had taken a taxi because it was miles on pitch black roads and I doubt we would have found it! I went to sleep thinking of the missionaries and their journey and hoping that they find what they were looking for.

Sorry to hear you’re running on empty when it comes to locating gas cannisters for your appliances. You need to build a little fire outside and treat yourselves to some outdoor cooking 🙂 I guess there’s only so much raw food you can consume but you did find tasty soup. I think it will have been so tasty because they keep the shells on the seafood and it all adds to the flavour of the broth. A bit finnicky to eat but worth it 🙂

I’m relieved that the missionaries you met weren’t into prosletysing and preaching. They are on a different adventure to you but I’m sure one they’ll never forget….

Hope the budget soon levels out and you find some gas cannisters soon. Happy trails. xx
